Anastasia Azure combines ancient weaving, traditional

Her forms are inspired by the elegance of geometry. She is an interdisciplinary teaching artist, recently completing a year and a half appointment as the Artist-in-Residence at UMass Dartmouth. She teaches outreach programs in public elementary schools, a variety of collegiate courses, and specialty craft workshops in jewelry-making, fabric dyeing and weaving. Her upcoming series of art classes will focus on site-specific locations in the Buzzards Bay watershed. First introduced to jewelry fabrication at Wellesley High School in Massachusetts, she continued more rigorous training at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, San Francisco, graduating in 2001. While earning her BFA in 2005 from California College of the Arts, she discovered weaving’s immense importance to her life’s work. A three-year residency, at the Appalachian Center for Craft, provided the time to research and develop her signature technique of dimensional-weave. She completed her MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design and resides in Providence, RI. Her art has won many awards, including three Niche Award (2008-2010). Her sculptural bracelet, Egg Hunt is featured on the book cover of “500 Plastic Jewelry Designs” published by Lark Books. She exhibits nationally and internationally, and her work is collected by museums. Presently she is exhibiting her sculpture, Landau for the Maharaja at the American Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
